2-17. INTERFACE BOX REPAIR (CONT)
Broken
If wire is long
Wires
enough to reach
excessive strain:
q Strip,
tin, and
resolder wire to
solder lug.
If wire is not long
enough to reach solder lug without excessive strain:
Unsolder wire from solder lug.
q
Strip, tin, and resolder wire to solder lug.
q
At multipin connector, use slip-joint pliers to loosen
q
knurled nut.
Use RX116-7 extractor to push out pin with broken wire.
q
Strip and tin one end of new wire (No. 20 with white or black
q
insulation as required).
Use M22520 crimping tool to crimp new pin onto wire.
q
Use RTM16-2 insertion tool to install new pin.
q
Use slip-joint pliers to tighten knurled nut.
q
Twist new wire around existing wire in pair.
q
Cut new wire to length, strip and tin loose end.
q
Solder new wire to solder lug.
q
Unsolder wire from solder lug.
Defective
q
Banana Jack
Use 3/8-in. socket wrench to remove mounting nut.
or Ground
q
Connector
Remove connector and replace with a new one.
q
Reinstall mounting nut and use 3/8-in. socket wrench to secure.
